Security IoT solution for discreetly monitoring a protected area by combining an infrared or FC-51 sensor with an RCWL-0516 microwave radar. Driven by an ESP8266 microcontroller, the system performs hybrid detection in order to reduce false alarms. In case of confirmed intrusion, a local alarm is activated by a buzzer and a light signal is triggered by an LED. A Wi-Fi extension also allows a remote notification to be sent.
Detailed description
Context
With the evolution of modern security systems, anti-intrusion devices must be more discreet, reliable and able to operate automatically. Conventional systems based on a single sensor can cause false alerts due to environmental disturbances. Combining several detection technologies improves the reliability of the system by analyzing several parameters before confirming an intrusion.
Problem solved
Simple alarm systems using a single detector can be triggered by spurious phenomena or harmless movements. This project solves this problem through hybrid volumetric detection, combining:an FC-51 infrared sensor to monitor a specific zone;an RCWL-0516 microwave radar to detect movements within a volume.
Proposed solution
The system relies on an ESP8266 that permanently analyzes the signals from the two sensors. When a presence is detected by the infrared sensor and confirmed by the microwave radar, the ESP8266 considers the event an intrusion and commands:
- Turning on a red LED;
- Activating an alarm buzzer;
- Optionally sending a notification via Wi-Fi.
General operation
The infrared sensor monitors a defined zone. When an obstacle or a presence breaks the infrared beam, it sends a logic signal to the ESP8266. Simultaneously, the microwave radar analyzes movements in the protected space. The decision algorithm works as follows:
- IR detected + Radar detected → Intrusion confirmed
- IR only → Verification pending
- Radar only → Continuous monitoring
After confirmation:
- Red LED on;
- Buzzer activated for a programmed duration.
Main features
- Reliable hybrid detection: combination of infrared detection and microwave radar detection.
- Reduction of false alarms: validation by two different sensors before triggering.
- Instant local alarm: activation of a buzzer and a light indicator.
- Discreet system: small footprint and easy installation in a protected area.
- IoT connectivity: possibility of adding remote monitoring thanks to the ESP8266's built-in Wi-Fi.
